2009 Oregon Photographer of The Year

Julia Radlick, CPP is one of only eleven photographers in Oregon to carry designated certification from Professional Photographers of America. Less than 3% of all photographers hold this distinction.

I am not a very formal person. I love a great-fitting pair of jeans, the perfect book, blue cheese dressing and my dog. Perhaps a little more passionately--- I grimace at traffic, big egos and black olives: not in any particular order. I can't type at all. "The" is always "teh." "Because" is always "becuase." Perhaps I have a thing with prepositions? :-)

I am a scientist, an artist; creative and curtailed all in one. My camera satisfies both of these eccentricities. Light has always wrapped around my soul and whispered to me; daring me to hold and keep it. So here I am, a photographer. I thrive on light, while I'm sure light is coyfully giggling at me. After all, the absurdity of being able to "capture light" is just that---absurd! But I keep doing it---with passion, creativity and determination.

As a long-time journalist, my favorite images are the ones you don't really know I'm taking. I am simply there to record your life; documenting. These are the times when you can just be you, and I can capture light as it wraps around you. What is it saying you? It kisses your eyes, plays in your hair and caresses your soul. Whether it's your son deeply engrossed with his I-pod, your daughters leaping on the bed, your dog sticking his tongue out the side of his mouth, or your family laughing wildly at the dinner table after an impromptu food fight with the side salad; my hope is to sear these moments in time. Light will be there revealing your life. I'll be there as its ally.
