My last day on the job at KATU. How much you wanna bet, they send me to the mountain today? LOL. There’s a snow advisory in the Cascades and I’ll bet you loads of money, they’ll send me up to cover the snow! Anna Song was researching me the other day in our archives and...

I miss seeing you on KATU but hope that you keep up your blog so that we can keep up with what you are doing.
I always wondered why you seemed to be in news stories all over the place instead of the news room.
Congratulations on your accomplishments of the past and we are looking forward to hearing about what you are going to accomplish in the future!
Did I mention that I missed seeing you giving the weather this weekend!
Bob
Julia,
We just finished the first weekend without you, and we’re missing you. I know it must feel at least a little strange being away, right? Something in the back of your head must have been saying, “Wait… where am I supposed to be right now?” Hopefully the other, more fun and exciting things at the front of your head drowned that out with cheers.
Wishing you great success and joy,
Orion
Good luck Julia,
I will miss you so much. I went to katu your picture had been taken off already. They took it off really fast. Do you know why they took Grant Mcomies off to. Any how best of luck to you in your new career. I will check it often. I have cried so much since you left. It was an emotional thing seeing you leave. It is like leaving your best friend from elementary school.
Best of wishes,
Karl
Julia,
From the day I hired you in San Luis Obispo, I knew there were great things in store for you. All the best in your new venture. Images have always been important; yours will enhance the world.
Dave
Julia, you were right…..my wife and I had a good laugh watching you in the blizzard….LOL.
Scott
Congratulations! I thought about you and your new adventure when I got up this morning!
Knock ‘em dead and hope to lunch with you soon!
Amy
My wife and I will miss seeing you on the weekends telling us of what to expect in the weather….it beats getting up and going outside to find out… Good Luck in your photo career. I really enjoy looking at your work. Maybe someday, I will venture out as you have done and just do it……
Scott
PS. I found your blog a while back while reading a few comments on the DWF site. And searching for other PDX photogs.
Congrats again…
Julia – I’ve watched you for years and been a huge fan. This post explains why I enjoyed watching you on the air better than any comment I could leave. I was always amazed however, how “they” managed to ship you out to the latest ice storm or blizzard out in the Gorge. Maybe the producers figured your ice skating background would give you special insight, and you know, keep THEM from having to go.
Good luck taking the next step!
MM
Will miss seeing you on the weekend news. Your cherriness and personality were always a great way to start the weekend. Best wishes in the future.

Celebrating Adoption continues to be one of the community giving programs that I just can’t help, but support with all my heart. This little one came into the lives of the “K” family just as happy as can be. We had a blast during their session wandering around the Pearl District finding all the fun...

He is a beautiful little boy! What a wonderful blessing to complete your family for the three of you. I’m adopted too, although a bit older than Jamal, and am so happy for the family I am a part of. Good luck to you!

He is definetly the CUTEST little boy I have ever seen!
Sorry to see you leave the new, now you can sleep a bit longer in the morning. Your photos look great. Good luck.

Well, I have one week left on the job at KATU. It is a bit bittersweet. Atferall, I have spent six years at the station and eleven years in the TV business. I will miss the people at KATU. I will miss the commraderie. I will miss the interesting stories I tell and the people I...

miss radlick i wonderd what happend to you on the news,i just stumbled up on your website glad to know your still folowing success your probably suprised at some of the response you have received, but people do remember you i wish you well.
Julia, I liked your job as KATU meteroligist(?). Your every-time reporting on KATU brings out passions to many of your fans – many of them like me!
Julia, it is just so sad to see you quit doing weather. Weather is one of my favorite subject to talk about everyday, you know? I watch KATU all the time – especially watching Rod because he has a since of humor.
I wish you’d go back to KATU someday because I liked you as a weather eeporter.
Anyways Julia, best luck to you on your new full-time job as photographer.
I will miss you on the news. Photography is a great direction, and you sort of look like a photographer. Kinda squinty. I always thought your name was spelled like ratlick, and was of course, captivated by that. Have a great new career.
Miss you already,Julia..
Heck,Missed ya 3 days into you being gone..Mornings are never gonna be the same..
Hey Julia!
Congratulations on your new gig! I wish you much happiness!!!
We will miss you but you tend to be a semi-regular at my restaurant so I know I’ll see you around:)
Best wishes,
Shelly
Congrats to you Julia! I have to say I always liked you best as the weather person for KATU. I majored in TV Broadcasting but never went into the career, too scared to move away from home at 22 after college, I guess. Your photos are also amazing, as are you, you just learned to ice skate and then you are an Adult ice skating competitor? Can you say “overachiever”. I think you have nothing to worry about. I wish I knew you were a photographer of animals before we had to have our 12 year old Scottie put to sleep. She was beautiful…………
Thanks for all of your forecasting, I will miss you. I saw you once in Target in Vancouver and was star struck by you……………
My wife and I will miss your smiling face and straightforward presentation. I didn’t know about the photography. So that’s why you were buying all those recordable DVD’s at CompUSA. Yep, disk space will now become a bigger concern than the hours and split shifts. I hope to see you around the photo groups. Good luck!
It’s strange to feel real loss when a (mere) news personality departs, but I’m quickly missing your spontaneous laughter (read guffaws:-), shirtsleeve emotion and natural beauty (thanks SO, SO MUCH for not glamming up). I won’t even go on re your professionalism, intelligence, enthusiasm, compassion and insightful, telling asides…
Flawless? No, thank goodness! Your genuine approach to the camera was like having a best friend or sister delivering the news and weather – amazing! As a result, your transparency in form and spirit have produced indelible memories of actual presence, as though you were in the room.
Thanks, Julia, for sharing yourself with us these past 11 years…especially the 6 in P-town…and best wishes in all adventures to come! Keep on rockin’ girl! You inspire!

(From Afghanistan)-I remember wrapping my arms around Julia when she came to my Reserve unit to cover the weather and story of our units’ helicopter crash on Mt Hood in 2002. I was securing a gunner’s belt around her waist (from behind) to demonstrate how a crew member was kept from being thrown from the helicopter when she exclaimed, “Oh, my. This is strange.” The cameraman and I both laughed. But maybe I should’ve been insulted? Naw. She was a good sport. Good luck to you, Julia.
I used to work with you at KATU and was one of the many disgruntled employees. Life after KATU and news, in general, is brilliant. Leaving was one of the best choices I’ve ever made.
Julia,
Your photography is magnificent. I see you have had a great teacher, your father.
As a wise person once told me, “nothing will happen, unless you make it happen.” Good luck, and enjoy.
I’m happy for you that you have the courage to commit to a new career. I remember hearing you were involved with Arabian Horses. Are you still?
My wife and I have enjoyed your reportage over the years. Best of luck to you, just looking at the pictures it is obvious you will be very successful. No guts no glory. Have a great time in your new profession.
As you say, your departure is bittersweet. I will miss not seeing you on week-ends but I know I can always get a fantastic portrait of my woofuses/woofi (plural for “woofus”) and me at your phenomenal portrait boutique. No need to worry about a change, your talents will carry you to unbelievable places. Keep up your great work.
Boo! My family will miss your sunny (OK, sleepy) self on the tube before we head off to church on Sundays.
With your taste and eye for light, I have no doubt your new venture will be a terrific success. Stieglitz, Strand, Weston, Adams, Radlick?
I’m so happy and excited for you. This is a new beginning, a fresh start and your time to soar! You have an amazing talent and are good at everything you do. I have every confidence that you will be incredibly successful and happy.
Love ya sis!
Good luck with the new job. Just be careful! Remember that episode of “The Brady Bunch” when Greg took a position as the photographer for the football team and ended up with a sprained eyelash from looking through the viewfinder for extended periods of time. Every job has it’s dangers…
Good luck to you!
I’m sure you’ll have success, your photography is exceptional!
Consider me a fan (and possible future client),
Joe
Julia,
I’m so sorry to hear we won’t get to enjoy your work on KATU any longer. I’ve been a big fan since moving to Portland five years ago and I’m sure your presence will be deeply missed. Thanks for brightening our mornings and best of luck as you move on to greater things!
Julia, Seems like forever since you were the new kid and trying to be “involved” in your stories…remember the Clackamas river story??! As I remember the water you jumped into was incredibly cold!! Congrats on the new career. Its great to be passionate about what you do. I thought I would miss the day to day news biz when I left KPAM to become the GM at the Portland School District radio station, KBPS-AM. I did…for about ten minutes! Good luck!
Oh, and BTW..you’re right, Norm’s coffee IS pretty good!
I’m a fan of yours and am sorry to hear that we will no longer see your cheerful face on assignment or reporting the weather.
Good luck to you, Julia.
Congratulations Julia! There’s a quote by Tagore that goes,
“I have spent my days stringing and unstringing my instrument, while the song I came to sing remains unsung to this day. ”
You, my dear, are strumming to beat-the-band!

Here’s your chance to get a great deal on a custom portraiture sitting, plus raise money for a GREAT cause! Jewel Images and Julia Radlick have been hand-selected by Oprah Winfrey’s Big Give: Portland Pays It Foward. We have donated a complete portrait collection for up to four people in the silent auction currently underway...
