Restoring 100 Years of Bend History
Celebrating its centennial year, the Box Factory is monument to Bend’s logging history and a reminder of it milling past. This restoration project will keep Bend’s architectural history alive and allow the community to treasure its cultural roots.
The Box Factory began as a place where remnant logging wood was made into wood boxes for all kinds of products, ranging from produce and canned goods, to tobacco and whiskey.
World War I & II
The Box Factory was critical to both World War efforts. Women in the early 20th century and the 1940’s worked the factory to help distribute supplies to the military.
Train transport was the way the boxes were transported out of Bend. Tracks that ran along what’s now Arizona Avenue (that are still there!) butted right up to the Box Factory loading docks where boxes were loaded and shipped out across the country.
